Certified Refurbished Echo Dot review
The fifth-generation Certified Refurbished Echo Dot puts Alexa on the sideboard for voice requests and smart-home control. Previously employed, now back in service: rather like a retired butler with Bluetooth.
What can it do?
Ask for the weather, set timers or control compatible smart-home devices by voice. Music, podcasts and audiobooks are available through supported services or Bluetooth. You will, however, still be fetching your own slippers.
Temperature-triggered routines can start a compatible smart fan when the room gets too warm. The Microphone Off button electronically disconnects the microphones when you want to dismiss the household assistant.
Who is it for?
It is worth considering if voice controls and compatible smart-home routines appeal, and you are comfortable choosing a refurbished device. The useful features depend on compatible devices or supported services.
Sir Trash Panda verdict
Refurbished offers another way to bring Alexa into the house without insisting on being the first owner. It is a useful little household delegate, even if it cannot make the tea.
